Former ARCH ENEMY Singer JOHAN LIIVA Talks About NONEXIST
December 27, 2004In a recent interview with the D-Day's Revenge webzine, HEARSE/ex-ARCH ENEMY frontman Johan Liiva was asked if he felt there was any "unfinished" business with his previous band, NONEXIST, since many fans felt cheated that they didn't get a follow-up to the group's debut album, "Deus Deceptor" (2002).
"OK, I understand that some people felt/feel this way, but at the same time you have to understand that being in a band, well, it's just like a marriage; sometimes you feel all is alright and sometimes you feel, 'Shit, I just gotta get out of here!'," Johan responded. "I got to the point of being tired of it and this was due to many reasons, I say this 'cause I feel it's a lot because of me that the band ceased to exist, hehe...." Asked if there is any chance of HEARSE playing a few NONEXIST songs live, Johan replied, "Well, I doubt it, but who knows — maybe there's a sunrise in the west instead of the east tomorrow??? When I'm still at it I'd just like to point out that I'm really proud and pleased with everything I laid my hands (vocal cords) on to this very day — NONEXIST is no exception."
In the same interview HEARSE drummer Max Thornell spoke about the songwriting process for the group's new album, tentatively due in March/April 2005.
"The mixing is now finished and we´re just waiting to get it all put together and mastered," he said. "Well, how does it sound then? I guess there are no major differences from [the second HEARSE album] 'Armageddon Mon Amour' [2004]. But I'd say it's a bit faster, a bit nastier, a bit messier, a bit rougher and of course a million times better, he he!"
With regeards to songtitles and a possible album title, Max said, "No album title yet, but it'll most likely pop up any time now. Well, there are song titles like 'Shackles of Guilt', 'Bountyhunter' and 'Una Lucha A Muerte'. We recorded 13 songs, but the album will most likely contain nine songs. Some of the songs we recorded sounds just too goddamn terrible, he he!"
